The evil in the world, compounded by the global recession, wars and
looming wars, racial intolerance, man’s inhumanity to man, natural
disasters and worsening climate change etc, makes it unavoidably
glaring that the world is dieing and needs salvation. One of the
problems that atheists have with God is that they don’t understand why
a good God would allow evil to persistently thrive in a world he
supposedly created. Could it be true that God does not exist? If he
exists,has he abandoned the world?.
Funny enough, this is the same world that have turned its back on God
and rapidly civilizing to make him obsolete. We have walked him out of
our schools, government and lives in the name of secularism. But God
in his infinite graciousness has not given up on this world. His word
exists to inspire us to hopefulness. He says,
“If my people(the world) which are called by my name, shall humble
themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal
their land”…2chronicles 7:14
God wants the heal the world but that healing won’t come if we
continue to doubt his existence. That healing won’t come until we
repent from our evil ways and embrace his love. As much as God wants
to heal this world, he won’t intervene until we seek his face in
repentance and return to his word for guidance. When we collectively
pray to God for our world, we give heaven a license for earthly
intervention. If there is a world that can pray, then there is a God
that can answer and restore.
History has it that before her death in the year 1901, Queen
Alexandrina Victoria of the united kingdom left a message for her
successor thus, ” tell the Prince( Edward vii ) that this book(the
Bible) is the secret of England’s greatness”. I believe that their
greatness started declining when they started loosing value for that
royal prescription. Late President Abraham Lincoln knew with utmost
conviction the value of God’s word and this was what he had to say,
“In regard to this great book(the Bible), I have but to say that it is
the greatest gift that God has given to man and in it lies the hope of
man”. Unfortunately he was assassinated by a world that ignores the
word when it says “thou shalt not kill”. I can only encourage that we
heed to their advice.
We can find solace in God’s word because it assures us that our world
cannot be damaged beyond redemption. We have a divine promise that the
lost years can be restored(Joel 2:25).
What would the word of God inspire us to do to save our world?
1. Repent and pray for our world ( 2chronicles 7:14):
this can take care of natural disasters, disease outbreaks, famine etc
2. Dwell together in love (Joh13:34):
This would take care of wars, racism, terrorism and all sorts of crime
3. Pray for our leaders (1Timothy 2:1-2):
This would take care of corruption, dictatorship, official impunity etc.
4. Be law abiding ( Matthew 22:17-21):
This would encourage patriotism and civic responsibilities even with
our believe in God.
5. Help the poor and the Needy ( Matthew 25:35):
This would encourage charity, love, aids, hospitabiity etc. The
essence is hope even for the global poor etc.
In a nutshell, there is still hope for the world; a hope that ONLY THE
WORD can offer. Attend to his words, incline your ears to his
teachings, let it not depart from your eyes, keep it in midst of your
heart. For they are life unto those who find them and health to their
flesh ( proverbs 4:20-22). OUR WORLD CAN LIVE AGAIN!!!
